OMG! Microsoft Windows 7 Kicks Butt!

Posted by: ubertechguy | Comments Comments Off

windows-7-logoI have been a long time user of PC’s since the very first days. I was impressed by the advent of the graphical user interface with the Apple Macintosh. I used Microsoft Windows since its first release. It has been a roller coaster of good and bad since the first days.

Windows 386 and the introduction of Microsoft Office gave many of us technophiles hope for what was to come.

When Windows 3.1 arrived, many of us felt like we had arrived at nirvana. Windows for Workgroups punched up networking and file sharing between systems. Windows 98 was a bit more robust, but many users became familiar with the Blue Screen of Death (BSOD). Not so great.

Windows Me arrived and nobody was happy. My buddies at Microsoft said that one should have never left the building.

Restart Your BlackBerry Without Pulling the Battery

Posted by: ubertechguy | Comments Comments Off

blackberry_logoDid you know you can force a restart of your BlackBerry without having to take the cover off and pull the battery?

If your BlackBerry locks up and you want to give it the three-finger-salute (aka. CTRL-ALT-DEL on a PC), then look no further.

Hold down the left ALT key, than press and hold the following keys simultaneously: RIGHT-SHIFT and BACKSPACE/DEL. Your screen will clear, your LED will blink RED and your BlackBerry will reboot.

Of course if this doesn’t work, rip that battery out! :D

Tearing Your Hair Out With BlackBerry AppWorld?

Posted by: ubertechguy | Comments Comments Off

blackberry-app-worldQuite a few of us have had problems with Blackberry AppWorld, especially when installations get stuck in what we in the industry like to call “an unknown state.” Basically, it’s just hosed.

No amount of uninstalling and reinstalling AppWorld will fix the problem. You can wipe your device to fix the problem, but what a royal PITA that can be. You can waste hours resinstalling and getting your device back to where you want it.

Try this simple keystroke sequence when you are in AppWorld next time and see if it works for you.

Press and HOLD the ALT key, then press the following keys in sequence: R S T
(As in “Reset” :P )

Many thanks to the community at CrackBerry.com for providing this and many more tips. If you are a Blackberry user, you owe it to yourself to join this community.
